Description
Nikka Nine Decades 70cl
Distillery: Nikka
Country Hierarchy: Japan
Alcohol Content: 48.0%
Style: Blended Whisky
Notes: This remarkable blended whisky from Nikka brings together more than 50 individual batches spanning nine decades, from the 1940s through to the 2020s, crafted across Nikka’s six distilleries. Reflecting both the house’s long history and its direction ahead, the blend features whisky from Japan’s now-closed Nishinomiya distillery and Scotland’s Ben Nevis, alongside the oldest reserve Japanese malt whisky from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, as well as new grain whisky from Moji and Satsumatsukasa.
Nose: Chocolaty peat and honey are joined by medicinal tones and warm spices like ginger and cinnamon, followed by apple pie, raisin sweetness, and toasty oak. Gentle smoke and antique wood notes create the impression of a quiet ageing warehouse.
Palate: Dark chocolate, apricot, and citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon meet gentle peat over a base of mellow oak with real depth, shaping aromas of cinnamon, roasted nuts, and cocoa. Subtle peat bitterness is softened by apricot jam and maple syrup, creating a warm, fireplace-like impression.
Finish: Cocoa, coffee, and orange come through clearly. A soft peat note sits within a full-bodied profile, while sweet and tart tones lead into a pleasant bitterness that lingers on a long finish.
